Rev. Mary McDonald
Dr. Mary McDonald is a veterinarian, international aid worker, spiritual director, deacon, speaker, wife, mother, and author. She became a certified Spiritual Director through the Global Benedictine Spiritual Direction Program. Her latest book is entitled The Magnet: A Large Animal Veterinarian's Journey is her spiritual journey of grace and healing. Dr. McDonald is currently employed with the Society for Anglican Missionaries and Senders (SAMS), and runs her own business called Spend Yourselves, LLC where she teaches a course called F.A.R.M., (Farm Animal Refresher for Missions.) She is founder and co-director of the Anglican International Student Ministry Network and ministers with international students at Va Tech. She has also coordinated the Alpha course and the Perspectives missions’ course.
In the past, Dr. McDonald was an Adjunct Professor at Va Tech and Life Pacific universities. She has led short term mission trips for both students and veterinarians to Bolivia, Uganda and Nicaragua, and was a Professor at the Rene Morales Veterinary Schools in Bolivia where her family served as missionaries. She currently has a revolving goat program in Uganda and hopes to begin one in Sudan. McDonald has two grown children, and she lives with her husband restoring an historic farm in Virginia. She serves on staff with The River Anglican Church as the Director of Women’s Spiritual Formation.
